Although we began with the typical floor plan of the historic single-side house, with a great room to the left of a centrally located stairway, we thought modern families might enjoy this transformed design. We moved the kitchen to a central location, which made it more easily accessible to the long side porch. Then we shifted the dining room from its traditional location (where the kitchen now resides), but still placed it close to the great room, creating a traffic flow that would work well when entertaining.
The kitchen also offers a roomy breakfast area that is also open to a keeping room for informal family gatherings. A small office, or computer area, is located nearby. The first floor master suite has a separate shower and garden tub, as well as his-and-her vanities.
Above, there are three bedrooms with two and a half baths. Shared access is provided to the second level porch.
The third floor has another bedroom and bath, and opens onto a balcony. We have provided an even larger computer or office area on this level, as well as an exercise or hobby area
